If you haven’t noticed, Austin is a very weird city. People think that graffiti is an art form, food from trailers is cool, and watching bats is a form of entertainment. All of these are why the saying ‘keep Austin weird’ exists, right?
This weirdness is a very big part of the culture in Austin and that is why my number 6 of the 7 wonders in Austin simply had to fit into this mold of being weird. And that is why I chose the Hi, How Are You frog and the I love you so much mural to take this coveted spot.
These two random murals/ graffiti are both huge landmarks in Austin. When I explain these two phenomena to friends or family outside of Austin they don’t understand what the big deal is.
They simply don’t understand that these two paintings encompass the vibe of Austin, the culture of Austin, its true random and weird nature.
So clearly if anyone comes to town, this is another place I would highly recommend. And if you aren’t aware that these existed until now, let me clue you in real fast. It is very common to take pictures with both of them, but especially to take pictures with your boyfriend or girlfriend underneath the I love you so much mural. And if you are not in a relationship, don’t worry, it is just as acceptable to take a picture with a bunch of your friends.
In case you want to visit either of these Austiny spots:
The I love you painting is located at the intersection of James Street and South Congress on the side of Joe’s Coffee shop. Like I said, it is a great place to take out of town guests, go spend time with friends, or have a random Saturday afternoon photo-shoot.
The Hi, How Are You frog is located right off of campus at the intersection of 21st and Guadalupe.
These two places make for a good activity when you have time off from homework or want a break from campus. They make good pictures too, which lets be honest, is very important to any true Austinite.
